“…entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”
2 Timothy 2:2b
I used this phase from Paul’s exhortation to Timothy on my prayer card and am sending it to supporters so they would be reminded to pray for me and for the Discipleship Training School that starts in 2011.
As I looked at it underneath my picture, I thought, “Am I one of the reliable people in the verse? Am I qualified to teach others? Am I some sort of a self-proclaimed teacher who alone testifies that he IS that reliable teacher?” I suppose the later is always possible but hopefully I can prove reliable and worthy of the trust people put in me as a minister of the gospel in the lives of others.
One thing I have found to be true in my life is that when I seek God and am lead to a corresponding scripture, the truth of God’s Word takes root in my life as I am obedient to Him. God’s Spirit turns death into life and I am transformed little by little as I am regenerated spiritually. I have found on more than one occasion, that when I share this experience with another, I learn and accept the teaching on a deeper level in my own life. I believe that God is into discipleship and teaching and exhorting others as we learn and are exhorted ourselves.
“…consider how you may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” (Hebrews 10:24)
In my opinion, I can only go so far on my own; in the quiet, with my Bible, and in prayer. The truths of the Word launch into life and I really “own” them when I act them out and teach them to someone else. Praise God for that!
So, I hope I can prove to be the reliable teacher in the verse by doing nothing more than walking with God and sharing my experience with others. God bless you as you are taught and pass on what you learn.
