Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you! I wanted to express my gratitude for your prayers and financial support over this past year! Just in case you didn’t hear, I spent most of 2010 working on a Youth With A Mission, DTS (Discipleship Training School) out of Oxford, New Zealand. (www.ywamoxford.org) What a fantastic challenge it’s been discipling our students and helping facilitate their outreach to Africa. Here is a little summary of the countries we visited and the things we did…
Johannesburg, South Africa: We helped a youth camp work toward self-sufficiency by building gardens and harvesting bamboo. We were also able to work with a medical team and take part in HIV testing to help educate people about the disease and work to prevent its spread.
Bussi Islands, Uganda: Each member of the team was able to practice teaching and preaching as we travelled with an evangelist on a tour of the islands. We had the honour of baptizing over 50 new believers in Lake Victoria at the close of the time.
Moshi, Tanzania: We worked extensively with orphans of all ages teaching dramas and playing games. We spent a week weeding and planting trees at the “Courage House” which is a place of refuge for girls re-entering life after prostitution.
Morocco: We spent time in worship and doing prayer walks around the streets of Marakech and Essouria. We moved down the coast to Agidir and met some fellow-YWAMers and did friendship ministry together.
The school culminated in Israel with a graduation ceremony and tour of the Holy Land! Our prayer and goal is to expose the students to long term missionaries and encourage them to follow Jesus ALL THE WAY, whatever that looks like.
In Feb 2011, I plan on staffing the DTS again with a new group of students. As you probably know, YWAM is a non-profit missionary organization and offers no monetary compensation, so we are volunteers and responsible for raising our own support.
I have listed my fees and enclosed an envelope in case you would like to make a tax deductible contribution this Christmas season! (You will receive a receipt by mail.)
