I wanted to say Thank you for supporting me during this past year as I spent 6 months staffing a Youth With A Mission Discipleship Training School in Oxford New Zealand. May the gifts you gave be a fragrant offering to the Lord and returned to you a hundred-fold! This is a picture of our amazing staff team taken during the first week of our training in a gorgeous spot on New Zealand’s south island. They are: Trevor Elste, Janosch Reithmeyer, Kari Bergmann, Kelly Elste, Lindsey Little, Kim Golden, Kadi Love, John Drey, Me, Will Rosenberg, and Julie Mellili.
Working with a YWAM DTS is a ministry of multiplication. As staff, we have the honour of walking with young people who made it a priority to spend a half year pursuing God and “roughing it” on a multi-country, international outreach. I believe each student has a special call on their life because, with God, there are no “accidents.” They came to New Zealand with a purpose. If I can encourage anyone to take the step of faith God is drawing them toward, my effort plays a part in multiplying his work. The more people I can encourage, the better! We are commanded to “…consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds…” Hebrews 10:24
During the lecture phase of DTS, there are many opportunities to pray. There is a giant world map on the wall because the world IS the mission field. We spend time praying for each other and asking the Lord for his call and heart for the world.
I believe leading is done through instruction, but we all know that action speaks louder than words. The Lord’s example of obedience on the cross is hopefully followed by my obedience that testifies of God’s life-transforming power. God’s commands do not always make “sense” in the conventional way, but I believe he does speak and does equip us for what he calls us to.
The Discipleship Training School is divided up into 6 teams that went on 6 different outreaches down 6 different paths around the world-hence the name of our school, the AW80, or Around the World in 80 Days DTS.
This is a picture of the team Kadi and I lead to Africa. From left to right, Emma Whyte, Sara Gil, Kadi Love, Carmela DeVlugt, Jacinta Lyons, Stephanie Hanson, Me, and the spectacular, John Hopkins.
I’ll be putting together a page titled, “Africa” with more about our experiences in South Africa, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Morocco.
We had our graduation ceremony in Jerusalem, which was the icing on the cake that made a life-changing trip even more spectacular! I will use the blog site at www.NelsonNyman.com to convey God’s faithfulness in my life and in the lives of others. I hope the stories and pictures help to summarize these events in some way and bring God glory!
