Just arrived back to Michigan after a pretty fast moving season out in Kona working with a group of volunteers called Mission Builders. I headed up the program for a quarter while the Youth With A Mission campus found a permanent, long term leader.

It’s good to be back with family and I’ll have to admit, tough to get in the Christmas spirit when it’s sunny and in the 80’s. Being from Chicago and raised where there are 4 clear seasons, it’s sort of hard-wired into my brain to picture a “White Christmas”. But then again, is Christmas really about what’s hard-wired into my brain?

Lots of good things happened in Hawaii along with lots of challenges. I’d been there for about a year working in operations, filling in where I was needed. Now that it’s a little quieter, and thinking back, it’s easier to assess a time-more from the outside, looking in. I think it’s good to evaluate instead of endlessly rambling along without taking the occasional inventory.

Being back in the cold, grey midwest is the perfect place to unwind for a bit and just hang out with the family. I’m grateful for the little things this year. And I’m grateful for the big things too..

Like a God who loved us enough to send his Son to die and pay a price none of us could pay.

Merry Christmas!
